Leonardo was born in Montevideo (Uruguay) and raised in a small village close to Nuremberg. Influenced by his teachers at school, he early on developed a great interest in science. After high school he spent a year in Nicaragua as a weltwärts volunteer working in a non-profit centre designed to provide educational support to children. He then moved to Heidelberg to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in chemistry with a year abroad at the University of Sheffield. Due to his interest in organic and biological chemistry, he later moved to Munich to specialize in this field in his Master's degree at the Technical University of Munich. During his Master's studies, he gained first experiences in industry through internships at Wacker Chemie (Munich) and Roche (Basel). After further lab rotations in medicinal chemistry in the group of Marc Nazaré (FMP Berlin) and biochemistry with Marcelo Comini (Institut Pasteur Montevideo) he is excited to combine his interests within his Master thesis in the Konrad lab. He is working on the development of novel chemotypes targeting oxidative post-translational modifications and their characterization in lung cancer cells. In his free time, he enjoys sports, good food and spending time with friends.
