David was born in Munich (Germany) but spent his school time close to Dresden. Fostered by his teachers at the Landesgymnasium Sankt Afra Meissen, he developed a strong interest in Chemistry and Biology. During his final year at high school, David carried out a research project with the Chair of Materials Science and Nanotechnology (Prof. Cuniberti) at TU Dresden. The work centered around the photocatalytic degradation of wastewater was premiered at the young scientist competition "Jugend forscht." After graduating from Sankt Afra in 2014, David started his Bachelor's in Chemistry at the TU Munich, during which he worked in the R&D department of WACKER Chemie in Burghausen as part of an internship. David graduated in 2017 after finalizing his thesis at the Chair of Pharmaceutical Radiopharmacy (Prof. Wester). He decided to directly continue with his Master's studies focusing on (Bio-)Organic Chemistry and Catalysis at the TU Munich. The university nominated David for an semester at the NTU Singapore in 2018, where he carried out a research project on lignin degradation (Prof. Soo). When David worked on chemical probe synthesis (Prof. Cravatt) at The Scripps Research Institute San Diego, USA in 2019, he was supervised by David Konrad. In the same year, David joined the Medicinal Chemistry department at Roche Basel in Switzerland, where he completed his Master's studies with a thesis covering the synthesis of novel enzyme inhibitors (Dr. O'Hara, Prof. Sieber). In the beginning of 2021, David joined the Konrad group as a Ph.D. student in collaboration with Roche Basel in Switzerland.
