Anna is from the forests of Småland, located in southern Sweden. She grew up on the countryside with horses and dogs but moved to Uppsala to pursue her academic interests. She studied biomedicine and performed her Bachelor’s thesis at the Department of Medical Biochemistry and Microbiology at Uppsala University in the group of Dr. Tanel Punga, where she investigated the biochemical characteristics of an E3 ubiquitin ligase. Her Bachelor’s degree sparked her interest in uncovering the molecular basis of cellular events and she continued her studies with a Master’s degree in molecular medicine at Uppsala University. During her Master's studies, she was accepted for an exchange program to study 7 months at the California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. She performed her Master’s thesis in the lab of Prof. Dr. Gunnar Schotta at Ludwig-Maximillian’s University investigating a specific pathway for silencing of endogenous retroviruses. Due to her strong interest in the use of proteomics techniques to uncover pathway disruptions in diseased cells, she joined the Konrad group to investigate the alterations in protein signaling events within non-small cell lung cancers and use this knowledge to develop new treatments.
