David was born in Muenster and grew up in a village called Nordkirchen. Since his school days, David has been fascinated by chemistry and started his Bachelor studies at the University of Münster (WWU), where he was particularly interested in photochemistry as he wrote his Bachelor's thesis in Prof. Dr. Gilmour's group on E to Z isomerizations. In the time between his bachelor and master studies, David worked as a student assistant in Prof. Dr. Wiemhoefer's group on the synthesis of new solid-state electrolyte composites for lithium-based batteries. For his master’s studies, David moved to the Technical University of Munich (TUM), with a major focus in organic and biological chemistry. After the outbreak of COVID-19, David took the opportunity to do a voluntary internship at Syngenta Crop Protection AG in Münchwilen, Switzerland. During his stay, David worked on nickel-catalyzed couplings, sulfuryl fluoride chemistry and actinometry. After further research internships at TUM, David became more interested in the field of medical chemistry and joined the Konrad group as an intern to work on the synthesis of photocaged activity-based probes.
